So what is the multi-player going to be like in bioshock 2? I have been a little sceptical about multi-player in recent times. Take The darkness for example. A really good game, the single player was really good. The multi-player however was rubbish, wasn’t even worth mentioning in a review. And the same can be said for a titles such as prey and quake 4. So I a still a Little sceptical of weather 2K can pull this off. But what i have heard sounds really interesting.

The multi-player in bioshock 2 is separate from the main story line, instead of running around in a falling apart art deco underwater city, you will be put in the city a year before everything goes down the pot. All of rapture is still in one piece and you are playing as a human.

The narrative behind the multi-player is you are employed by a company called Sinclair Solutions. A company that is looking as slicing and what effects it has, the only way you can gather data for the company is to fight other test subjects. The company have been kind enough to give you a nice apartment in rapture which serves as your multi-player lobby, in this apartment you can roam around freely which is a pretty cool idea with information being pumped through to you via your radio on Sinclair’s research.

But this is where I think the aspect of multi-player will either be good for 5 mins or strive as long as halo 3 has online. I am talking about the customisation abilities you have within your lobby. You cannot take everything into battle, which is fair enough, but you can choose from which plasmids you take and what weapons, also as you play more multi-player games you will rank up and unlock more plasmids, weapons and upgrades. But you will however start of with Incinerate (throwing fire and people which damages them over time) Electro bolt (the classic stun you enemy plasmid) and Winter’s Bite (which freezes people). During E3 it was said that there are going to be plasmids and weapons that are spacifically for multi-player. No details hae arisen but watch this space.

During game play there will be vending machines scattered round the area. But instead of going into the circus of values etc the items will be waiting for you in the vending machine trey. A nice idea i think because then people wont be waiting for hours getting he things they want while another guy is shooting you in the back of the head. There will be turrets for people to hack too to give them a little bit of an advantage the thin to note here is instead of a hacking mini game you will get a pr0gress bar so hacking turrets is far more efficient in multi-player.

There are also 3 game modeswthin multi-player. Death match, teams deathmatch and another that has not been disclosed as yet. More information will be posted here as i get it.

One thing that has caught my eye about the multi-player is the big daddy suit. Every now ad again one of these ill spawn on the map, players will know this by the classic big daddy groaning sound. Players then have the chance to scout out and suit up (they aso have the chance to opt in or out of te suit meaning you will probably get what im gonna start calling now daddy campers :p). Meaning you can go around as a big daddy, the player will gain strength and defence but will give up mobility making the player movements quite slow. But this means they are an automatic target, for a player to take down a big daddy they will gain more adam, which is the equivilant to experince points in bioshock 2 multiplyer. The more adam you have the more you will rank up in the game.

So as you can see the multi-player in bioshock looks set to be fairly interesting, a lot of thought has gone into it and I can see this having a little life span in it, just imagining the plasmids going crazy in a map while a guy in a big daddy suit tries to kill someone all the while he is surrounded my 5 other players with a flurry of plasmids. This has the potential to be as big as Halo 3 multi-player :)

Bioshock 2 is heading for the X Box 360, Ps3 and PC this November!
