Survival horror games are a dying breed, with games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill taking a more action-oriented take on the genre – to begin with, a single zombie could be a terrifying opponent, worrying about conserving ammo while trying to keep yourself alive; now Chris Redfield finds himself mowing down hundreds of Majinis without breaking a sweat. The games are good – but the survival horror aspect has all but disappeared. That’s why I picked up a copy [...]

Well, its a game thats been on my mind for some time now – Final Fantasy: Dissidia, Square Enix’s PSP fighter starring a hoarde of characters from the Final Fantasy series. Taking a single hero and villain from every numbered FF title up to FFX, plus a couple of others, Dissidia has an all-star cast spanning two decades of RPG feuding. For all of those people who know me out there your first reaction to this is going to be ‘What!?’ I am not a big sports fan at all. I am one of those people who will either happily fall asleep or just laugh at how board the commentators are when the golf is on. To be frank golf is one of those games that I have no desire to play and watching bores me senseless. But when it plays [...]

Devil may cry 3 did it with the special edition having a new character for you to use with alternative costumes, a new unlockable costume for Dante, and some enemy tweaks. Ninja Gaiden Black introduced new weapons, more cut-scenes, new enemies, new costumes and [...]

The first of a selection of older titles I will be covering is Konami’s Zone of the Enders 2. From the mind of the man who created Metal Gear Solid comes a fast-paced mech action title. You may or may not recognise the name – it seems to be very much a cult title, although it does have a fairly large fanbase. The first game was released in 2001, before the release of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of the [...]

BOOOOOM! Your a science experiment gone horribly wrong and you have escaped the lab you were made in! All you can do now is escape from the science facility to freedom. But how do you do it? You ‘splode of course! BOOM!! I can’t remember the last time I wrote a game demo or game trial write up. But now I’m getting back into the demo writing business of things. A great way to start is to talk about twisted [...]

Its true, games consoles have gotten more powerful over time, allowing developers to make more visually impressive, larger games, which allow them to create something that it ultimately more impressive. But the creativity has always been there – simply contained within the rules and restrictions of the console games were built for. Although generally less powerful than games of this generation, older games can still be masterpieces, and it would be a shame to ignore them thus. Therefore I have [...]
