I felt that Bayonetta flowed better than DMC4, as well as having far more content, but compared to DMC3 (and even DMC1 to an extent), I just didn't find the gameplay as satisfying. DMC3 in particular had five completely unique weapons, with extra skills to buy, extra abilities accessible through styles, and even outside of weaponry the styles unlocked other skills such as the Trickster dash and Royal Guard. Bayonetta did well, but I found many of her weapons being very similar or just uncomfortable, so I very rarely strayed from using the sword or claws. With DMC3 I went back and re-played it with Cerberus, Beowulf and Nevan, each providing a different gameplay experience or new set of ideas.

I think one of my problems with Bayonetta was the concept of not seperating guns and melee weapons. The gun combos were ok, but they were all far too similar and didn't feel fleshed out enough to be more than just 'support' weapons. I'd have much rather seen the guns equippable to the Square/X button, and had both Triangle and Circle/ Y and B assigned to more fleshed out melee weapons such as the sword and whip. Obviously I understand that Bayonetta was supposed to focus on the guns, but they weren't really that interesting, especially with the Wicked-Weave finishers making them seem almost identical.

Lara Croft really isn't that great a person. She's actually quite mad. She's already rich, yet she goes to other countries and steals from the poor? Like a reverse Robin Hood, but in this case she robs the poor and gives to herself. So, being a "gaming girl" and not topping Lara Croft, is actually a complement, because that b*tch is crazy.

As for Bayonetta. Well, it's not her over the top-ness that's the problem (it IS a bit much but whatever, so is every video game in some way). It's the game play that I care more about. I really didn't like Devil May Cry 4 all that much. I was enjoying it at first, until I had to play the level's in reverse, which just PISSED ME OFF. I'm sure I'll check it out at some point. But NOT before Mass Effect 2. ;)

I have been umming and arring about this game ever since the demo. But from what you said in this review I think I will actually pick it up. Sure Bayonetta herself is a bit of a "interesting character" but I can defiantly see me sinking my teeth into this one. Liking the DMC references also.

Ok so which heroin is better on a motor cycle? Lara Croft Or Bayonetta :p

Don't get me wrong, it's definitely worth playing. The gameplay is pretty solid and it does have some genuinely great parts, it just doesn't quite give me the rush that DMC1 and DMC3 did - but I'm not sure I'll see another game like that for a long time. God of War III should prove a worthy equal, but DMC and GOW are unique in their own ways - I couldn't see either replacing the other.

"over-the-top, slutty-posh English dominatrix/witch type thing"

Yeah... I've met her. She's not as hot as the Dark Mistress from Dungeon Keeper though... that's just not possible. I can't think how many people have talked about this game, but I still can't bring myself to play it. Lorna has a copy, it's right there... sealed... I'm not sure it'll ever be opened. There's just something unlikeable about the whole game and I can't put my finger on it.
