The Next Level In Gaming

Halo has been the perfect franchise for me. After leaving the PC and the likes of Duke Nukem, Quake and Unreal Tournament. I thought the FPS genre was finished for me untill I laid my hands on Halo: Combat Evolved for the original X Box. I got an X Box for that game and I have never regretted it. It’s in-depth story about the war against the Covenant and indeed the whole story behind the Halo rings themselves did hook me untill the end of Halo 3.

The title that started it all.

After playing 3 I was happy to put down the controller and leave Halo. But when ODST came out I did not hesitate to pick up the controller again and carry on. Even though ODST wasn’t as good as the main trilogy, it brought a sence of atmosphere and isolation that fitted with the Halo franchise but didn’t alienate away from the traditional Halo games that I were used to. Then again Halo wars was a total change from the original trilogy and even though I am pretty rubbish when it comes to RTS games I really did enjoy Halo wars.

Now we look to the future. Well the past. It is now exactly one week till the last game in the Halo saga is released. 1 week till the prequel to the whole Halo saga is released, and 1 week till we say goodbye to Bungie, and thank you for releasing such an epic saga of first person shooters.

ODST wasn't what we were used to but fitted in well

Over the past few months I have been giving various updates on the game. What to expect, new features and just general news on the game. But I really haven’t voiced my opinion about how this is the last ever Halo FPS coming out by Bungie, and that this is pretty much the end of the Halo series as we know it.

Of corse I do feel sad about it, I mean Halo for me is a bit like Guitar Hero and Rock Band for GuitarGirl, Civilisation and Fallout for Beanie, every single telltale game in existence for Jokesound, it’s even like Final Fantasy for Leon and for the rest of the writers their top franchises are still going where as Halo as an FPS game is now taking its last curtain call.

But there is no point in moping about it, come on I mean a new game is coming out in a week and it promises to be the best Halo of the lot. Bungie are planning to go out with a bang implementing all the things that Halo fans have been yearning for, for ages. Things like Jetpacks, the health bar from the first Halo and even full spartan customisation in both campaign and online multi-player modes. There are going to be brand new vehicles, weapons and even enemies. There will even be an epic story line that ends up in a whole planet being destroyed and pretty much a whole race of humans being wiped out. This is going to be one hell of a game both offline and online.

Will Noble 6 be the last playable spartan?

For me a video game cannot get anymore epic than this, sure it is going to be very sad to see Bungie leave the Halo scene, but at the same time this is going to be the game to put the icing on the proverbial cake, the finisher to end all finishers and indeed probably the best Halo game ever to be created.
