The Next Level In Gaming

Archive for November, 2010

To put my feelings of Halo: Reach into words would probably make me sound like the biggest Halo fan boy on the planet, so I’ll just say that the game for me was the best final certain call for Bungie that the gaming universe could hope for, as FPS games go it is everything I need, well maybe besides that fact that it doesn’t have the parody humor of Timesplitters or Duke Nukem, but a game can’t have everything you [...]

The first ever game I got on the PlayStation 2 was The Simpsons: Road Rage, it came with the console and I didn’t think much of it at first. Now I am not one of these gamers who even likes games that are based off of hit comedy TV shows. But what I played the game I found out The Simpsons Road Rage had something that other games didn’t. It had charm, it had some great game play and was [...]

Looking back at my old posts for Plus XP. I have stumbled across this neat little post I did back in late 2009 talking about hos games have evolved and what’s hot and what’s not in gameplay now a days. Enjoy! The past couple of weeks I have been playing a couple of games that quite frankly I have loved because of the gameplay. Two games that automatically spring to mind are DJ Hero and Bayonetta. Both of these games [...]

When it comes to FPS games there are only a few titles that stand out as the best of the best in my opinion. Halo (obviously), the original Unreal games, Doom, Quake, Duke Nukem and Timesplitters. I love my Sci-Fi shooters and with the recent rebirth of Duke Nukem and with Id’s upcoming RAGE, I’m starting to wonder something… Where the heck is the next instalment of Timesplitters?

Quick, name any amazing film trilogies you can think of! Now if I’m lucky, one of the first ones that came to your mind was the Back to the Future trilogy. One of the best things ever involving time-travel, the series of films featured Michael J Fox as Marty McFly, a teenager who gets caught up in a series of time travelling adventures which involves getting his parents together, an alternative time-line and the Wild-West. With his friend the ever-lovable [...]

We as gamers must have at some point in our lives played games such as Sonic the hedgehog, or Super Mario. These are classic examples of 2D platforming games. Of corse like most genres of games they evolve over time. You then get such classics as the original Spyro the dragon and crash bandicoot, still platforming games but on a 3D plane. As with all gaming genres there is always some great titles that get lost in the past, that [...]

Contributed by Helen Doherty Out now for the iPhone for just £0.59 via the iTunes store is Doodle Smash, a game with more than a passing reference to the massively popular Doodle Jump. Both see you playing as a bouncing alien, controlling the action by tilting the iPhone left or right However, whereas Doodle Jump’s objective was to travel as far up as you possibly could, Doodle Smash now expects you to make your way down.

Dynasty Warriors, like Marmite, is often met with a bit of a love/hate attitude. On its surface, the series appears to be a simple matter of hacking down hundreds of enemies at a time - and in a way, it sort of is. However, below the surface, I have grown to love a game that tells a colourful re-invisioning of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, ancient tales of the struggle for supremacy over China. The real beauty of Dynasty Warriors, in [...]

When Halo: Reach launched, I was one of the dissenters who chose to make their reluctance to continue investing in the series clear. Obviously, Reach is supposedly a fantastic game and I’d probably enjoy my time with it if I chose to invest in it, but in a gaming climate overflowing with First Person Shooters my desire to play them has declined to the point where the only FPS games I’m even remotely looking forward to are Duke Nukem Forever [...]

It’s been a little while since I last wrote about Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds, but I’ve been closely keeping track of the news, so now I can present you something a little more substantial. So what’s the latest news?
