The Next Level In Gaming

Archive for January, 2011

I’m sitting here right now in my room, browsing PlusXP.com. A year ago now, on the 30th January 2010 my first post was on the site, proudly displayed. “5 Upcoming Movies of Games That Are Bound To Fail”, an article I’d written for my own blog that was originally used to accompany my Student Radio show that I’d spruced up a little and added loads of extra content into it. A year later, I’ve been to Expos, met some amazing [...]

So we’re approaching the end of the first month of 2011, and in the grand tradition of each year feeling identical to the last (what with months being a concept of time and all that) January still feels as cold and miserable as December 2010. But that’s not really important, what’s important is what this year could bring us in the world of videogames. This could potentially be one of the more important years in gaming for a while. In [...]

A while back I did a full history of how Duke Nukem forever came about and its 13 year struggle to finally get a confirmed release date. Even though I was the ripe old age of 10 years old back in 1998 when Duke Nukem Forever (DNF) was first announced, I was pretty excited for a 10-year-old, mainly because I loved watching my Dad play the game and make levels with the level editor. But now it has been confirmed [...]

The final verdict It was time to start Fable 3. Looking out over the vast and impressive land of Albion it suddenly dawned upon me that my brother the King was not a very nice man. I told him this and to punish me he wanted me to press A and kill some innocent people. It was Ok though because after killing these people I decided press A and to run away and start a revolution. I didn’t have any [...]

On Friday I announced a competition here on Plus XP. I had 10 codes to give away for the latest Fist Of The North Star: Ken’s Rage DLC for PlayStation 3. The competition was simple. Think of a caption of this screen shot, and 10 of the best captions will receive a the prize of Shin & Thouzer’s Original Costumes & 2 New Missions which would usually cost £4.99/€6.19 each. It would appear that only nine people entered the competition. [...]

November last year saw the release of Fist Of The North Star: Kens Rage on the PlayStation3 and XBox 360. The game based on the hit Anime and Manga series, told the story of Kenshiro and his battle against his brothers and his struggle to be soul successor to the fighting style Hokotu Shinken. I reviewed the game and was really impressed by the sheer amount of content and how everything in the game pretty much came together perfectly. Also [...]

Dissidia: Final Fantasy was an excellent PSP title for fans of the Final Fantasy series. For the first time, players could play as many of their favourite characters from the series – from the Warrior of Light from the very first title, through the Squalls, Clouds and Zidanes of Final Fantasy VII-X, even a pair of characters from Final Fantasies XI and XII. With an equal amount of villains from said games to fight them, Dissidia was an FF fan’s dream mash-up [...]

In the past few months there have been an absolute load of announcements for games coming out in 2011 and beyond. There were also some good game releases last year as well. But there has been something that has been niggling me about some of the latest announcements which make me think that game developers are fixing things before they are broken. I.E. Rebooting game franchises. In some respects some games need in but most of the time games don’t [...]

Two year ago I really got into fighting games. Before then I was dipping in and out of things like Tekken and Soul Caliber but not really getting a feel for them. It wasn’t till about two years ago I picked up Street Fighter IV and though I would have a go. I got hooked and I love Street Fighter more than ever as a fighting game. About a month or so ago one of my friends at work started [...]
