For a long time I have been in love with the Grand Theft Auto series, and in my opinion it is the best of the sandbox genre. Even though you are a normal human being with no super powers, crazy wall climbing or free running skills, you do have a whole city and an exceptional variety of vehicles and weapons to play with. GTA III was ahead of its time and with the addition of ‘The Lost and The Damned’ [...]

One of my favourite trilogies in the history of making three of things has to undoubtedly be the Back to the Future series. Incredible writing is pitched with fantastic humour and one of the best takes on the concept of Time Travel I’ve witnessed in popular media. The adventures of Doc Brown and Marty McFly are some of the greatest around, but never before have they had a video game that you could be proud to call part of the [...]
Everyone probably knows by now that FPS games are my thing, I have said it enough times and I am probably going to say it several more times before I die, it’s even getting to the point that when I do die I do genuinely hope that I respawn and get another go. But with all that being said my FPS tastes have been broadening and I do genuinely thank Portal for this. When I first played Portal back on [...]
This weekend saw the first ever Games Blog Live at The Guardian offices in London, so Jokesound and Myself, accompanied with a host of Gaminglives.com guys hit the event to see what tasty treats we could get our hands on and what EA had to say about Dragon Age II, Crysis 2 and Shift 2: Unleashed.
In light of Marvel Vs Capcom 3 coming out on friday here in the UK. I felt like shoving the acronym MvC into Plus XP to see what I cam up with, and here you have it a post back from September 2009, so am I glad MvC3 finally came out. Can I get a resound hell yes! Sequels That I Would Love To See In recent years when I have looked at games, I have been looking mainly at [...]
Lately I have been getting my gaming mitts stuck into Assassins Creed II. I had always been reluctant to play this game due to the fact that the first game left a bad taste in my mouth; I tried and tried to get into it but it really didn’t do it for me. So I hesitated but nonetheless started the game. I have never been so engrossed in a sandbox game since probably GTA III (you would be surprised how [...]
Contributed by Helen Doherty Starting in 1983, Hudson’s successful Bomberman series has, to date, sold over 10 million units. The franchise has spawned over 70 titles to date, appearing on everything from the ZX Spectrum to the Playstation 2, and more recently the iPhone. Released on the 10th and 14th February 2011 respectively, Bomberman Chains and Bomberman Dojo represent the third and fourth games in the series to hit the platform. While Dojo is quite a traditional Bomberman title in [...]
Recently, Nintendo held a preview event to allow people to trial the 3DS before it’s release to the general public at the end of March. I was lucky enough to be able to go along and experience it, and so I’ve been trying to cover as much as I can in as far as what I saw and what I witnessed. For the final part I’ll be looking at the First Party games that were on display; Pilotwings Resort, Nintendogs+cats, [...]
As a Gamer, I can…sometimes find myself a bit too engrossed in my work. We’ve all been there; a quick play turns into a couple of hours and then more and more and more. You don’t want to leave the gaming zone you’ve created for yourself. There’s always an excuse: “Just to the next save point” “I just have to finish this quest” “Just a few more levels, then I can face the boss”. And if you’re particularly unlucky, the [...]
Over the past couple of years I have been getting seriously into fighting games. I have Street Fighter IV to thank for this; I know I’ve said this before, but it’s true. Granted, I dabbled with Soul Calibur and Tekken before then… but Street Fighter was the clincher for me. Back on the Sega Mega Drive though, I did have a brief stint with Mortal Kombat. My friend had it and I would spend hours round his house playing the [...]
