Greetings, the name’s Helen. Those of you with a keen eye on PlusXP will have no doubt seen a few of my articles about, such as my coverage of Pokémon White/Black, Okamiden and Doodle Smash. I’ve been a contributor for PlusXP since November last year, and it is with delight that I can say I’ve just been promoted to a fully-fledged staff writer. Which means I get a cool T-shirt and get to cover press events, among other things! As [...]

Throughout gaming history there have been two staple weapons of choice, the gun and the sword. Both have been wielded by heroes and villains a like, and of course there have been all different varieties of these weapons from rocket launchers to demon possessed blades. So if you were a hero or indeed a villain, what staple weapon would you choose? The gun or the sword?

When I think of hack and slash games there are only two games that cut the mustard. Devil May Cry for its awesome story and stylish combat and Ninja Gaiden for its fantastic game play and its steep learning curve. The amount of time I have spent trying to complete Ninja Gaiden II is unreal. I still go back to it every now and again just to see if I still have the skills to beat the game. That and [...]

When the original release of Marvel Vs Capcom 3 (or MvC3) was first announced I was pretty excited. It couldn’t have come out at a better time either as my love for fighters was in full swing (and it still is) and my love for Marvel comics was growing bigger.I was glued to every single announcement that was released but when the game finally came out, I felt a bit underwhelmed.

If you’ve read any of my previous articles, you’ll probably know that I’m a huge fan of Devil May Cry, specifically the original Devil May Cry, and Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition. Sadly, in the current generation I’ve felt my hunger for Devil May Cry a little unsatisfied – while Devil May Cry 4 was enjoyable, the game really lacked replay value, and Dante got reduced to only having a few backtracking stages to play.

Contributed by Helen Doherty Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing is the third title in a relatively new series of games which focus on the characters and settings of Sega’s history. The first two titles in the series were ‘Sega Superstars Eyetoy’ and the commercially successful ‘Sega Superstars Tennis’. SSAR (Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing abbreviated) has thus far proven the hit itself, having sold 2.37 units worldwide to date. It has been praised far and wide by critics and fans [...]

I’m not really a fan of horror movies – I don’t generally find pleasure in watching something that’s likely just going to put me on edge and make it harder to sleep at night. Oddly, though I do find myself to be a fan of horror games  – I’m not sure exactly what the difference is – perhaps it’s the fact that I’m in control of the action, I’m not sure. I wouldn’t consider myself a “hardcore” horror fan, and [...]

…. But Not The End Of Halo As We Know It Bungie’s community manager Eric “urk” Osborne wrote on Bungie.net; “As we prepare to become fans of the universe our studio began creating more than ten years ago, it’s nice to know that we’ll be counted among such esteemed company. “Some might consider the upcoming transition a bittersweet occasion punctuated by a sense of loss and sadness. We feel otherwise. Halo is in great hands… yours. “Halo is yours now. [...]

The last couple of years have seen a big comeback for the fighting game genre – with Super Street Fighter IV and Mortal Kombat 9 bringing the 2D fighter genre kicking and screaming into the current decade, made to shine with updated visuals and tighter controls than ever before. As fighting games (and our rivalry) become even better than ever, we thought we’d make a tribute to our favourite characters in the genre!

Ever since the first Tomb Raider game was released in 1996 I have aspired to be Lara Croft. Less than impressed by the Tv and movie stars of the time, my nine year old self saw Lara as a strong, brave and confident woman whom I admired above all others. As a result of this admiration I promptly platted my long dark hair, donned my best tank top and inappropriately short hot pants and set out across my back garden [...]
