Frequent readers of Plus XP will no doubt know that I love the GTA franchise, my love for the series first started when I played GTA III. Since then I have played every GTA game that Rockstar has bestowed on the gaming public. I had very mixed feelings of GTA IV. The game play and the look of the whole game was fantastic, but I didn’t think that Nicko was a strong protagonist, however the expansions had far stronger protagonists [...]

When I first heard about Batman: Arkham Asylum, I can’t say I really took interest. Being a casual fan of Batman thanks to the recent movie series, it wasn’t until I had a moment of boredom that I randomly decided to give the game’s demo a shot. I was glad I did – because Arkham Asylum ended up being one of the best games I’ve played – Rocksteady catching many people off-guard by producing a Triple-A title seemingly out of nowhere – creating a [...]

Ridge Racer Unbounded focuses on two key things, driving and destruction. I got a chance to preview the game at this years Eurogamer Expo and seeing as the last Ridge Racer game I played was on the PSone I was not surprised that the series had moved on quite a bit. In the words of Namco Bandai in the new re-imagined Ridge Racer you get to leave traditional race cars in the garage and drive a selection of ‘Badass street [...]

A person or a team of a company’s most highly skilled creative team are issued the task of creating a new IP (Intellectual Property) and cannot sleep until the light bulb shines. They resort to antics such as: recycling past heroes and taking their key skills and looks, they maybe even brainstorm ludicrous plots and obscene protagonists. I mean come on, a plumber that eats mushrooms? How is that going to be a succe………. Well I’m sure you get my [...]

Here at PlusXP we love Sonic, so its fair to say we’re in quite a state of anticipation over his upcoming release. Due out Friday the 4th of November, Sonic Generations is shaping up to be one of the finest games of 2011. Coming out on the Xbox 360, the Playstation 3, the 3DS and PC, Generations lets you alternate between 3D play, where you control ‘Modern Sonic’ (basically Sonic as he appears in his recent titles) and 2D gaming [...]

Note: I’m sorry this article is a little late – between juggling a new job, new home, RPG reviews, announcements and of course gaming, I’ve been a little sidetracked with life in general. Anyway – onto the review! The last game I got my hands on at this year’s Eurogamer was one of the many sequels I’m looking forward to next year – Mass Effect 3. While I found the original title took a little getting into, it was a [...]

So as you know at Eurogamer they show off all the yet to be released titles, but they also put in titles that have just been released. One of these titles was Resistance 3, which is a FPS game from Insomniac games. I was a fan of the previous two games and I really enjoyed playing them, so when I heard that Resistance 3 was to be playable at Eurogamer I jumped at the chance to give it a go. [...]

Note: Due to technical difficulties, That Bloke in the Beanie was unable to play Dead Island’s online multiplayer co-op. As this is a major part of the game which adds more gameplay and variety, this review should be treated solely as an evaluation of the single player mode. I never saw the trailer for Dead Island. I had heard the hype but never been embroiled in it myself. So going into it my only expectations were for a zombie game [...]
