I’m not sure if Square-Enix have suddenly got a lot going on, or whether it’s simply my currently ignited interest in the series, but there seems to be a lot going on in the world of Final Fantasy at the moment. So much so, that this week we have enough information for a special Final Fantasy edition of the gaming newsletter! Before Crisis 3DS remake a possibility?
Dissidia: Final Fantasy was an excellent PSP title for fans of the Final Fantasy series. For the first time, players could play as many of their favourite characters from the series – from the Warrior of Light from the very first title, through the Squalls, Clouds and Zidanes of Final Fantasy VII-X, even a pair of characters from Final Fantasies XI and XII. With an equal amount of villains from said games to fight them, Dissidia was an FF fan’s dream mash-up [...]
I didn’t enjoy Final Fantasy XIII – amidst the beautiful visuals, and the… erm. Well, aside from the beautiful graphics, the game left me feeling entirely underwhelmed. While previous titles in the series had kept me entertained sometimes for over 100+ hours at a time, XIII felt like an empty shell of a game. Gone were the cities, full of civilisation and places to explore, instead forcing us to shop through menus at save points while we were forced to [...]
Contributed by Helen Doherty Crystal Defenders is, along with Voice Fantasy, part of a wave of Square-Enix apps to recently arrive on the iPhone. This fun little game has previously been released on everything from the iPod Nano to the Xbox (as a Live Arcade title), and its easy to see how its simple tower defence gameplay could be easily adapted to so many formats. It is more overtly connected to the Final Fantasy series than Voice Fantasy, lifting many [...]
Contributed by Helen Doherty Voice Fantasy is an innovative new iphone (3G and newer) title from Square-Enix and Koto, where you generate Final Fantasy-style battlers using the power of your voice! Its not a game per se, as you don’t actually control your character during gameplay ; you merely watch as your creation battles it out, hilariously trilling whatever it was you said during their birth as their battlecry. But its feel and abundance of Final Fantasy influence makes it [...]
While it’s always good to be up to date with the latest games, sometimes gaming can be quite a financial burden – with new games costing around £40 a pop, it’s easy to get swamped when trying to keep up with all of the new releases. But for when £40 seems like a little too much, that doesn’t mean you need to stop gaming. There are a number of gems out there, all just waiting to be played for under [...]
First of all I’ve got to get THIS out of the way… …cause its awesome and relevant. AND I almost counted it as a vote, but it wouldn’t of made a difference as you’ll soon notice. HERE IT IS! EBAY/KEEP/(EBAY LATERS) Gamespot: 1/2/1 IGN:2/4/2 GiantBomb:8/13/5 1UP:2/1/0 Twitter/FB:1/1/0 PlusXP:0/2/3 TOTAL:14/23/11 KEEP WINS! -These votes were shared across my Gamespot, IGN, Giantbomb and 1UP blogs along with votes from social networks and the site I contribute to PlusXP.- Now there were ALOT [...]
I have a…love hate relationship with RPGs. When I love them I will withdraw for days and never let go of them. If I hate them, I will try my hardest to beat them out of a twisted sense of spite. Then I sell it or give it away and try to forget it. The final fantasy series is perhaps teh best example of this: I Loved FFVII, I hated VIII, I Loved FFIX (the only one I completed), I [...]
Mark Boss hits the Oxford Street HMV for the launch of one of the biggest games of the year. On his own and midly ill he tours the queue armed with only a Microphone (named Susan) and his camcorder. This actually turned out to be one of my favourite event coverages so far, and a great start to the year. HUGE thanks to all those in the queue that doubled as my camera person. That includes you Pete! Uber cool [...]
Of course Plus XP usually reviews games – but seeing as it’s game related, for the first time ever I’ll be reviewing a Blu-Ray DVD instead. Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete. It’s been a while since the original version of Advent Children came to Europe in DVD format – sadly coming straight to DVD rather than hitting cinemas, it was arguably one of the best pieces of CGI animation I’d ever seen. Set two years after the end of [...]
