The Zill’Oll series has previously only ever appeared on Japanese consoles; with PlayStation, PlayStation 2 and PSP instalments in the past. However, for the first time an instalment is coming to the west and we can finally get our hands on a game in the series on the Playstation 3. Published by Tecmo-Koei, Trinity: Souls of Zill’Oll is an action RPG developed by Omega Force – the people behind Dynasty Warriors.
Dynasty Warriors, like Marmite, is often met with a bit of a love/hate attitude. On its surface, the series appears to be a simple matter of hacking down hundreds of enemies at a time - and in a way, it sort of is. However, below the surface, I have grown to love a game that tells a colourful re-invisioning of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, ancient tales of the struggle for supremacy over China. The real beauty of Dynasty Warriors, in [...]
It’s been a little while since I last wrote about Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds, but I’ve been closely keeping track of the news, so now I can present you something a little more substantial. So what’s the latest news?
RPG games for me are a mixed bag, there are very few I can really get into and enjoy to the full. The Fable series defiantly being one of them, Borderlands and Fallout 3, again some great RPG titles. But some of what I would say the more traditional ones I really can’t get into for some reason.Games such as most of the Final Fantasy titles for some reason I can’t really fully immerse myself into. So when I went [...]
The epic clash between the Belmont Clan and Dracula is amongst my favourite plotlines in gaming. It’s not complicated, it doesn’t pretend to be more than it is – at its very core, Castlevania is about the struggle between light and dark, good and evil, with plenty of monsters to slay along the way. Given that the name ‘Castlevania’ itself refers to Dracula’s castle, Lords of Shadow isn’t really about the castle at all. Being a reboot for the series, you can probably [...]
LittleBigPlanet was a huge success on the Playstation 3 – allowing for some of the most creative gamers to really dig deep into its core, producing some of the most amazing platforming levels you could think of. While the story mode was good, the real depth came in the form of its online modes – tagged with the simple brand – ‘Play. Create. Share’, there you could find some true artists, with some of the best user-generated content seen on [...]
Often when playing a game you’ll find that you’ve played something in a similar vein – while the actual engine, plot and characters may change the general ideas are the same – be it a hack n slash, a racing game or a shooter. However, once in a while a developer – in this case 505 Games – tries to create something unique that hasn’t been done so many times before. Obviously this can be a risk – as you [...]
First off, if you haven’t read it already – check out my earlier 16th hour opinion article if you want to read a little more detail into the game’s battle system. I’ll cover it to an extent here – but no sense repeating myself entirely! A huge FF fan, I’ve played most of them and completed many – each game offering a whole new world to explore with its own cast of characters – naturally things have progressed as time [...]
Sony’s own God of War was one of the PS2′s final great titles, God of War II in particular creating something that looked fantastic, delivering to us one of the most enjoyable (and brutal) games to date – taking the fresh concepts of the first title and simply improving upon them. The story expanded by an equally fantastic PSP title, Chains of Olympus, the series tells us the tale of Kratos, a spartan general caught up in a never-ending quest [...]
