The Next Level In Gaming

Frequent readers of Plus XP will no doubt know that I love the GTA franchise, my love for the series first started when I played GTA III. Since then I have played every GTA game that Rockstar has bestowed on the gaming public. I had very mixed feelings of GTA IV. The game play and the look of the whole game was fantastic, but I didn’t think that Nicko was a strong protagonist, however the expansions had far stronger protagonists [...]

One of my favorite game franchises on the PS2 was Max Payne. The mixture of film noir narrative and great 3rd person shooter action made for a highly addictive game, that I spent countless hours playing. Plus the fact you were able to shoot down half a room of bad guys in slow motion was just the icing on the cake.

I warn you now that this could be a very controversial subject; for one thing GTA IV is awesome, so don’t get me wrong when you read this article. I am not here to say no other GTA game is better than GTA 3 due to the fact they all have their merits, but I always got back to GTA 3 and this is why. Back in the mythical time of 2001, I went around one of my friends’ houses [...]

Back on the PS2 Max Payne was the only 3rd person shooter I played. Back then I was free to try out games I could afford and Max Payne 1 was one of the first games I got for the PS2. I was amazing, the very idea of bullet time in a game was amazing to me. The Matrix had come out around the same time there wasn’t a game that used the slow mo effect that the Matrix had, [...]

Ok so a little bit of background history about me. Before I got into games journalism and indeed Plus XP, I was majorly into my films, heck I am still today. I mainly thank my Dad for that, every weekend while I was living at my parents house my Dad would stick on a movie, old or new that I hadn’t seen. It’s quite funny having conversations with my friends and I suddenly ask have you seen the original 1940′s Metropolis [...]

The cowboy game is perhaps one of the more underused concepts, given the popularity of the classic western films that inspired many a mind both young and old – from the legendary Clint Eastwood movies, to Back to the Future III, the idea of horseback gangs and outlaws with pistols has always had a certain appeal – and it’s an idea that you’d think would lend itself to games rather well. Sure, there’s one or two titles out there, but I’d [...]

The wild west has had relatively few games out when compared to the more popular genres of pirates, world war 2 and anything involving aliens, and there a good reason for this: It’s hard to do a decent Western in videogame form. At best you’re going to get an average to mediocre FPS with a few plat forming and exploring bits in it, such as Call of Juarez, though to be fair; COJ is a pretty decent game. But on [...]

There are only a few games in this world that grab my attention every time, even if the slightest utterance of a name is mentioned my ears perk up. Halo and Grand Theft Auto being two prime examples. There is also one specific genre that has the same effect, whether it is in films, games or even books. That genre is Film Noire. So when I first heard the name L.A. Noire, a title that is being created by non [...]

I am one of the very few gamers that hasn’t been bitten by the Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 bug. I know this sounds really damn strange coming from an FPS nut such as myself, but money is tight at the moment and personally, a good sci-fi first person shooter like Halo makes my trigger finger itch a bit more than a war game. But thats just personal preference. That aside that game has sky rocketed since its release [...]
